Mentoring
Across our 3 Teaching Centres, we have a number of mentors who support our young people both in and out of the classroom. The impact of the additional support the mentors have been able to offer has been significant. Some of our hardest to engage young people have credited their engagement to the mentoring and coaching that has been provided both in and out of school.
We currently contract 3 mentoring companies to increase the offer across our Teaching Centres. All mentors work closely with Centre Management Teams and are an integral part of the James Brindley staff makeup.
Michael’s Mentors
Michael’s Mentors have formed well established relationships, with mentors based across Dovedale, Parkway and Northfield over the years. Michaels Mentors have a good understanding of the needs of our young people and have demonstrated flexibility in their approach and excellent relationships with our children and their families.
Michaels Mentors is an organisation based in Birmingham, that works with primary school & secondary school aged pupils at risk of exclusion. They combine quality 1-2-1 mentoring with compassionate but consistent behavioural boundary setting interventions to reduce conflict, promote healthier futures and reduce repetitive patterns of disengagement both in and outside of school. Some of their key areas of focus will be around;
- Emotional intelligence, particularly building good relationships and collaborating effectively
- Social and emotional competence, particularly in relation to collaboration
- Resilience and coping strategies
- Perceptions of self (self-confidence and self-efficacy)
- Motivation, goal orientation and perseverance
- Conflict resolution
