Welcome

Welcome to James Brindley at Ardenleigh! We are part of the Medium Secure provision at Ardenleigh Hospital in Erdington. We cater for up to 11 young people in Medium Secure who are with us for complex mental health reasons.

We work alongside other therapeutic disciplines such as: Psychology, Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy to support our young people in their personal development. Examples of personal development include relationships and sexual education and careers education.

Young people are taught either 1:1 or in small groups depending on the need of the cohort, where they are supported to complete qualifications which will allow them to move on to their next stage when leaving Ardenleigh. This may include traditional GCSE subjects but could equally involve Functional Skills or other appropriate qualifications depending on student aspirations. We aim to equip our young people with the necessary life skills that will allow them to be successful when they leave.  We use a THRIVE approach to build resilience, independence, communication skills and emotional regulation.

Our Centre Management Team consists of:

Sarah – Assistant Centre Leader

Kevin – Assistant Principal

Kelly – Art/ Catering teacher

Alongside our curriculum offer, student also have regular opportunities to take part in calendared events. These are run both by James Brindley and by other disciplines within the hospital. These include events such as:

  • Black History Month
  • Macmillan Coffee Morning
  • Diwali
  • Anti-bullying week
  • Mental Health Awareness week

All of our young people also have calendared Personal Development days, which have a specific focus such as Religious Education, Careers or cross curricular days.

Student wellbeing is covered thoroughly by the hospital’s therapeutic offer, alongside our own Feelgood Friday afternoons. Through our educational, therapeutic, wellbeing and personal development offers we hope to develop well rounded young people who are able to engage with and contribute towards society in their future.
