Autumn

Pupils will learn key knowledge based on the design process, technical drawing and hand tools and machine use to create wooden a product with a festive theme.
Spring
|
Pupils will continue to develop a variety of skills learning about different materials and production methods. Pupils will create a product that uses a range of materials to fulfil a roll in the home.
Summer
|
Pupils will continue to develop a variety of skills learning about different materials and production methods. Pupils will create a product that uses more advanced skills and processes such a soldering or joint making.
How is the course assessed
Pupils will be given a challenge during the term in the form of product to design and make for a target audience. Pupils will also take an examination style assessment test based on materials and process knowledge gained and design skills. |
How can you support your child at home
Encouraging pupils to look at products in the home and elsewhere and think about why they have been designed that way and what materials have been used. Encourage pupils to practice key skills in preparation for practical coursework including drawing and production skills at home.

KS4- Level1/2 Award in Materials Technology-AQA
Autumn Pupils will learn key knowledge based on the design process, technical drawing and hand tool and machine use to create wooden products.

How is the course assessed
Pupils will undertake a number of mini projects that will allow them to be assessed against 8 practical skills and the knowledge associated with these. Pupils will also take an examination style assessment test based on the materials and production process knowledge and design skills gained. |
How can you support your child at home
Encouraging pupils to look at products in the home and elsewhere and think about why they have been designed that way and what materials have been used.
Encourage pupils to practice key skills in preparation for practical coursework including drawing and production skills at home. Discuss products produced in school with pupils when they are brought home and pupil feedback on the products and ask about designs and skills used to produce them. |
