The Primary class at Dovedale is a mixed ability Year 5/6 group of nine pupils, taught by a class teacher and HLTA, with the support of a Teaching Assistant. For Literacy Skills, English and Maths, pupils are taught in two separate ‘stage not age’ groups to allow for more targeted, personalised learning. Pupils cover the same Science and Computing topics but will usually complete tasks in separate groups based on ability. Where all pupils are able to access the subject or task successfully (i.e. in Art, P.E. or Spanish), the class will be taught together, with staff providing more targeted support for pupils who require this. Primary pupils also access ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’ on Wednesday afternoons, where a wide variety of enrichment activities are on offer. Topics and texts studied are dependent on pupil interest and engagement and may be adapted to meet the needs of the changing cohort.
