Partnership Working

At James Brindley we believe that working in partnership with others is fundamental to achieving the best outcomes for young people and their families.

Although the school is Birmingham based, young people in hospital are often from Local Authorities (LAs) beyond the Birmingham area, stretching across not only the region, but the country.  Within Birmingham we offer a seamless journey between different educational provisions, both internal and external to the organisation.  In addition to this localised practice and associations, we have developed an extensive network with links to many LA provisions across the country.  Teachers work in partnership with other professionals to ensure that when a young person is discharged from hospital they are supported by local educational specialists e.g. home teaching teams, when they return home.

For most pupils their placement at James Brindley is time limited with an anticipated return to mainstream, alternative or post-16 provision. This varies depending on the nature of the medical needs and associated recovery. From the point of admission or referral, we work with the young persons’ home school, as this relationship needs to be maintained and strengthened to enable a successful reintegration as part of the recovery pathway.

We understand the absolute necessity and associated benefits to both the young people and all other stakeholders, of an integrated professionals approach.

To this end, we pride ourselves on the successful partnership work currently in place within our organisation across the following areas:

  • Local Authorities across the UK
  • Health care providers (both public and private)
  • Charities
  • Educational Psychology
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech and Language
  • Autism specialists
  • Substance misuse
  • Mental health
  • Other schools across the UK

James Brindley is keen to increase partnership working and welcomes any approach from other organisations who would be interested in joint working with the view to improving outcomes for young people.
