Invitation to Tender: Artist/Sculptor

James Brindley Academy is looking for an artist to create permanent pieces of artwork to celebrate differences. At James Brindley, we provide education for children and young people whilst they are in hospital or are unable to attend their mainstream school due to medical conditions or special educational needs. We teach across ten teaching centres and hospitals in Birmingham.

What and Why

We wish for ten individual pieces of lasting artwork to be created with a working project title of SUPERHUMANS!

We would like centre specific stand-alone pieces to be created that are developed and co-produced collaboratively, positively reframing ‘labels’, celebrating the physical and mental differences and capabilities between us as superpowers.

We would like an artist to work sensitively and in collaboration with our young people and staff, to design and produce high quality art installations that captures the essence of our community as SUPERHUMANS! It is important that the final sculptures are durable and resistant, as they could be either indoor or outdoor pieces, and will be a permanent installation within our centres.

Our wish is for our young people and staff to be involved in developing ideas and designs, however the sculptures are to be produced by the artist off site. We have identified an indicative budget that we would want to discuss further with the artist as part of the recruitment process.

We are very open to suggestions that can be detailed in the application. What is important to us is that the installations are of high quality and fulfil the briefs intention of celebrating difference, whilst showcasing the James Brindley Academy ethos, which is to ‘Think Differently’.

The media of sculpture is to be advised by the artist.
