Curriculum
At Willows Centre, the curriculum is directed by the pupils' home schools, who provide work to be completed. Teachers guide and support the pupils to continue on their educational pathways, so that disruption to a pupil's progress is minimised during their inpatient stay.
Key Stage 3
Key stage 3 pupils are in one class and are taught together, as a group, in each subject. This means that they will have classes in the following subjects: English, maths, science, humanities, PSHE, art, MFL, ICT and sport and leisure, along with music, gardening and Forest Schools.
Key Stage 4
Year 10 and Year 11 are taught together. Most pupils will have already started GCSE courses and are likely to go back to their home schools after their admission. As such, we aim to support pupils in studying for their subjects, regardless of which specification or exam board they are following. They can even take their exams here at Willows.
Key Stage 5
For those pupils who have started A‐levels or other courses, we offer personalised timetables which match pupil needs with our teacher specialist subject knowledge. Where we can’t teach a particular course, we offer ’self‐study’ periods under the careful guidance and support of the most appropriate subject teachers.
If you have not yet achieved a ‘C’ or 4 grade at GCSE in maths and or English pupils will work with teachers towards achieving this.
We also offer you the opportunity to take courses in: Arts Award, creative writing, and GCSE humanities. There is also access to lessons in gardening and Animal Care.
