Clean Air Zone – 1st June 2021

Information for Parents & Carers

Dear Parents/Carers

Clean Air  Zone – 1st June 2021

Clean Air Zones are being introduced to cities across the UK, starting with Bath and then Birmingham. Unlike a congestion charge (like in London), which charges every vehicle to enter a designated area, the Clean Air Zone will only charge the most polluting vehicles.

To improve air quality within the city, Birmingham will introduce a Category D Clean Air Zone on 1 June 2021 and charge owners of the most high-polluting vehicles to drive within certain parts of the city centre.

As of 1st June 2021, owners of high-polluting vehicles will be charged £8 per day to travel within areas of the city. This does not affect all James Brindley sites – only Parkway (Head Office/STP base) and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Both the Board and the Senior Leadership Team agree that the introduction of the Clean Air Zone is a positive step in making Birmingham a greener place to live and work.

Please follow the link below to check your vehicles eligibility as you might need to pay to drive in a clean air zone if your vehicle does not meet emissions standards.

I have also attached some additional information from Birmingham City Council regarding this matter, and your child’s transport to and from school.

Yours faithfully
